Equality Guide
for Youth
From a single media resource to a structured critical learning experience for youth.

The tension
Coordinadora Paz Para la Mujer, had produced a video on equity for children, but needed a way to move beyond passive viewing into meaningful reflection and dialogue. Without a structured approach, the learning risked remaining superficial, with limited tools for facilitators to guide deeper engagement or sustain critical thinking processes with young participants. In practice, this meant the simulation worked best when those original designers were in the room. For new facilitators, it could feel overwhelming, difficult to follow, and hard to lead with confidence. At the same time, the initiative was trying to expand its reach and needed a version of the simulation that could travel, be picked up by others, and be implemented consistently.

My role
I co-designed a facilitator guide grounded in Popular Education, creating a structured yet flexible system that allows educators to accompany young participants through processes of reflection, dialogue, and critical thinking around equity.

-
Transformed a standalone video into a sequenced learning experience with increasing levels of complexity
-
Designed three interconnected exercises that move from self-awareness to critical analysis of social structures
-
Structured each activity with clear objectives, timing, facilitation guidance, and adaptable group dynamics
-
Embedded participatory methods that prioritize dialogue, empathy, and horizontal engagement
-
Developed facilitation guidance that supports educators in navigating group dynamics, emotions, and emerging discussions
-
Integrated reflective practices to help facilitators evaluate and evolve their approach over time

The shift
The project moved from a single educational resource to a coherent pedagogical system. Facilitators were equipped not only with activities, but with a structured approach to accompany young people in developing critical awareness, emotional reflection, and collective understanding of equity.
